Retired Supreme Court Justice Javed Iqbal, who presently serves as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), ordered the anti-corruption body to investigate the allotment of thousands of acres of land in a Gwadar-area industrial zone, according to Dunya News. Unnamed NAB officials told the news channel that 3,167 acres of land was illegally allotted in the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA), an economic zone administered by the Balochistan provincial government.
The GIEDA is located around fifty minutes east of the Gwadar port, along the Makran Coastal Highway connecting Gwadar to Karachi, and near the M-8 motorway. It is one of several industrial areas planned for Gwadar, including a set of free zones managed by the Gwadar port operator.
