Reuters reports that during a visit to New Delhi last month, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Chabahar “port has to happen and the U.S. is going to work with India to do that.”

Haley described India as a “great partner with us in Afghanistan” and said that the Chabahar port is a “vital” part of those efforts. The U.S. envoy also pressed New Delhi to acede to Washington’s demands to cut off all imports of Iranian oil by November.
